Seated Dinner or Standing Reception? How to Decide

The first layout decision shapes everything else: a seated dinner and a standing reception are different evenings even in the same room.

Seated dinners suit speeches, courses and guest lists where everyone should have a place. Standing receptions hold more people, keep the room moving, and suit networking and celebrations where mingling is the point.

The benefits, plainly

  • Standing formats raise capacity — the Grand Room goes from about 180 seated to 250 standing
  • Seated dinners give every guest a place card and a clear view of speeches
  • Receptions keep conversations moving and suit shorter programmes
  • A combination works too: reception first, dinner after
  • The floor team arranges either from the same room

How to pick and choose

Count your must-sit guests — grandparents, award recipients, long-haul travellers. If most of the list belongs seated, plan a dinner; if the point is circulation, go standing.

Tell us the format when you enquire and the coordinator will sketch the layout with you before anything is booked.
